The IRS Business Tax Account page organizes access by business type and role. Owning an LLC or having its EIN does not establish every online permission. The SS-4 line 7b entry “foreign” is not a substitute for an online service’s own identity and access conditions.
Start with the task and the actual filing record
Write down the document or information needed: an EIN verification notice, an entity transcript, a balance or a notice. Then identify the entity’s actual filing type and the person who wants access. Do not change a tax election or choose an inapplicable return just to match a portal category.
The current IRS page describes limited access for an individual partner who has an SSN or ITIN and a Schedule K-1 on file, and describes different full-access roles for designated officials. A person’s ownership percentage alone is not the whole access test. Check the precise entity and role section, including the years and features currently listed.
Do not turn an eligibility gap into a classification answer
The page says Business Tax Account is not yet available for LLCs filing as sole proprietors on Schedule C or Schedule F. Its single-member-LLC section lists specific return categories and limited shareholder/partner roles; it is not a general access promise to every foreign-owned disregarded LLC filing a pro forma Form 1120 with Form 5472.
The IRS page’s current single-member heading also lists Form 1065. That placement should not be used to decide that a one-owner LLC must file a partnership return. Resolve the entity’s real classification and the applicable access route with the IRS or a qualified adviser. This guide does not infer eligibility for an unlisted scenario or recommend applying for an ITIN solely to enter a portal.
Separate limited access, full access and a document request
The IRS page lists features under each role. A limited partner view is not automatically full account control or a promise that every document is downloadable. The digital CP575 is available through Business Tax Account to eligible users; a general announcement that the feature exists does not establish this owner’s access.
If online access does not fit the actual facts, keep the needed-document question open. The IRS EIN page also lists an entity transcript and the business line’s Letter 147C route for confirmation. Each has its own authority and authentication conditions. Do not borrow another person’s credentials or treat a preparer’s possession of the EIN as permission to enter the account. No account is created or signed into through this guide.
Access preflight: six separate facts
Keep these notes privately with the source documents. This is a reading checklist, not a form to complete or submit here.
- Task
- Exact record or feature needed; distinguish confirmation from account management.
- Entity
- Actual federal filing category and supporting record, not a portal category selected for convenience.
- Person
- Individual’s genuine role in the entity and the IRS role being considered.
- Published conditions
- Required personal ID, K-1 or official-role conditions for that precise route; mark unknowns honestly.
- Permission scope
- Limited or full access; specific features and years listed for that role.
- Alternative question
- Which authorized IRS confirmation or transcript route can answer the original need if online access is unresolved?
Two fictional records
These examples contain no real EIN or applicant. They show what a record supports and what remains unanswered.
One foreign owner, no matching route established
Fictional Summit Example LLC’s owner has no SSN or ITIN and wants to download a digital notice. The file contains no evidence of a published access path that fits the actual filing facts.
Record and next check
The access preflight remains unresolved. The owner separates the confirmation request from portal access and checks the official alternatives.
What remains unproved
The EIN or a permissible “foreign” entry on SS-4 does not prove online eligibility.
An individual partner considers limited access
A fictional partner has the personal identifier and K-1 records described by the IRS for that role.
Record and next check
The file compares the published conditions, available years and limited features before any registration attempt.
What remains unproved
Meeting those described document conditions in a fictional case is not a verified login, full-access grant or guarantee that every record is available.

IRS pages consulted November 3, 2026. Access availability can change. No identity documents were supplied, registration attempted or session opened; this is a preflight for an owner’s own official inquiry.
